Crysis 2 Review

Another week, another FPS. This time it’s the turn of the previously-PC-exclusive, graphics-card-torturing Crysis franchise, now available for the first time on home consoles in the shape of Crysis 2. Though it might be viewed as a triumph of the egalitarian console medium that this elitist title has been brought down to the level of the common man, robbed of its primary unique selling proposition (it’s very pretty if you can afford to get the hardware to play it), is it a case of The Emperor’s New Clothes?

Jonah Hex Review

Let’s be up front about this – the comic book adaptation Jonah Hex is not a good film. All the reviews, publicity and anti-hype was totally accurate. It’s plodding, generic, and predicable. But then again, that’s not always a bad thing. A car crash of a movie can still be compelling if it’s really bad. It can be unintentionally funny (check out Hollow Point some time).

La Rafle (The roundup) Review

Now I don’t usually leave the cinema with a tear in my eye, or stunned into silence by a story, but La Rafle deals graphically and intelligently with one of the most taboo periods in modern French history. I don’t think I was the only one left a little shaken by this film either, as those audience members milling in the cinema’s foyer afterwards were similarly mute and sombre.
